The purpose of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau is to implement state administrative functions in the investigation of serious railway accidents and significant incidents, civil aviation accidents and incidents, as well as maritime accidents and incidents.

The Bureau investigates railway, civil aviation, and maritime transport accidents and incidents, prepares final investigation reports, and formulates recommendations to prevent similar railway accidents and incidents, civil aviation accidents and incidents, and maritime accidents and incidents in the future. It should be emphasized that determining fault or identifying responsible individuals is not within the functions of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau, as these responsibilities belong to other competent authorities.

The activities of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau are guided by its Operational Strategy for the period 2023-2027. This strategy was developed and adopted in 2023, based on the functions outlined in regulatory acts, the Transport Development Guidelines for 2021-2027, the Ministry of Transport's strategy, as well as an evaluation of the Bureau's previous activities.
