On 24 February 2024 at 03:53, a railway accident occurred on classification track No. 1 in Yard B of Šķirotava Station in Riga. A cut of 32 wagons released from the hump rolled out of the third braking position at a significantly higher speed than intended.

The force of the impact set in motion a group of 17 wagons already standing on the classification track. As a result, a total of 49 wagons began moving uncontrollably. During this movement, five freight wagons derailed and a side collision occurred with freight train No. 1064M.

The investigation established that the immediate cause of the accident was the excessive speed at which the wagon cut left the third braking position. Contributing factors included fog and mist, which reduced visibility. The systemic factor was deficiencies in the operating documentation for the MSR32 system, which did not specify clear limits for the maximum length and weight of wagon cuts.

The accident caused damage to rolling stock and railway infrastructure; however, no persons were injured.

On 7 August 2025 at 14:11, a side collision occurred between an electric multiple unit and a track maintenance vehicle at Riga Passenger Station.

The investigation established that the accident occurred after the track maintenance vehicle passed shunting signal M7, which was displaying a stop aspect, and entered an occupied route. The development of the accident was influenced by the perception of signalling information that did not correspond to the actual traffic conditions, as well as by the absence of mutual confirmation of information communicated by radio before movement commenced.

No persons were injured in the accident; however, both the electric multiple unit and the track maintenance vehicle sustained significant damage.
