The operational objective of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau is to carry out state administrative functions in the field of investigating serious railway accidents and incidents, civil aviation accidents and incidents, as well as maritime accidents and incidents.

The Bureau conducts investigations into railway, civil aviation, and maritime transport accidents and incidents, prepares final investigation reports, and develops recommendations to prevent similar railway accidents and incidents, civil aviation accidents and incidents, and maritime accidents and incidents in the future.
It is important to emphasize that determining fault or liability does not fall within the Bureau’s functions, as this responsibility lies with other competent authorities.

The work of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau is guided by its Operational Strategy for 2023–2027. This strategy was developed and adopted in 2023 and is based on the Bureau’s functions as defined by regulatory acts, the Transport Development Guidelines 2021–2027, the Strategy of the Ministry of Transport, as well as an assessment of the Bureau’s previous operations.
