On 17 July 2026 at 18:49, the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau (TAIIB) received a notification via its emergency telephone line from an air traffic controller of Latvijas Gaisa satiksme concerning an aviation accident.
At 17:30, a Cirrus SR22 aircraft, with a pilot and two passengers on board, was flying towards Ādaži Aerodrome (EVAD). After receiving clearance from Riga Approach to descend from 5,000 feet above EVAD, the pilot attempted to land. However, as the aircraft was positioned too far from the runway centreline, the pilot decided to discontinue the landing and perform a go-around.
While climbing to an altitude of 700 feet and making a right turn, the aircraft experienced a complete loss of engine power. The pilot activated the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), and the aircraft landed in a field at approximately 18:35, around one kilometre from Ādaži Aerodrome.
No injuries were reported. The aircraft sustained substantial structural damage.
In accordance with Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and Regulation (EU) No 996/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the occurrence has been classified as an aviation accident. The Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Division has launched a safety investigation.
