Zviedru vizīte Latvijā

On Friday, 12 December, the Marine Accident Investigation Division of the Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau was visited by colleagues from the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority. The purpose of the visit was to provide an in-person overview of the progress of the investigation process, as well as to hold detailed discussions on the final phase of the investigation related to the marine accident that occurred on 3 June this year in Swedish territorial waters involving the tugboat Ron Jeremy.

A Latvian citizen lost their life in the accident, and the investigation is being conducted in close international cooperation between the competent authorities of Sweden and Latvia. During the visit, the parties exchanged up-to-date information, reviewed the work completed to date, and coordinated the next steps in the concluding stage of the investigation.

Significant progress has been achieved during the investigation, and several possible causes of the accident have been identified. At present, the work is focused on the preparation of the final investigation report, which will summarize the findings and safety recommendations.

It is planned that the final investigation report will be publicly available in the spring of 2026.

The Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau highly values the professional cooperation with its Swedish counterparts and emphasizes the importance of international coordination in the investigation of complex and tragic accidents.
